Vodafone to introduce flat-rate 3G Internet access across Ireland
Irish consumers will now be charged a flat fee of USD 61.6 per month for ‘unlimited’ broadband service on laptops and mobiles. Vodafone Ireland will apply this rate to its High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) service. Vodafone Ireland, the country’s leading mobile operator, has a subscriber base of 250,000 for its 3G service. The company boasts of a market share of around 47 per cent, closely followed by rival O2 Ireland.
The company’s investment of over one billion Euros in improving the 3G network will ensure that Irish consumers enjoy unlimited access to emails and Internet at a speed of up to 1.2 Mbps. However, Vodafone clarifies that downloads in excess of 5 GB may be queried by them in line with a fair usage policy that is standard among all broadband providers in the country.
Computer makers Dell and Lenovo will introduce a range of notebook computers, which will feature built-in 3G broadband Vodafone SIM cards and GPRS/3G broadband radios. This will be possible only later this year but will boost Ireland’s economic development, as an increasing number of people will be able to work on the move.
Vodafone Ireland claims that its dedication to mobilizing Ireland’s workers is apparent from their hugely successful 3G Mobile Connect Card solutions such as Vodafone Business Email and BlackBerry from Vodafone. It has responded to customers’ demand of simplified service with Vodafone Unlimited Data. Another significant development for Vodafone is the launch of the first UMTS broadband phone, which is small, powerful, and multitalented. It has faster transmission rates of up to 1.8 Mbit/s that are possible with UMTS broadband, thus setting new standards for multimedia services.
